The Vatican City adopted their flag in 1929 after signing the Lateran Treaty with Italy that made them a new independent state governed by the Pope. The flag features a papal tiara and the keys (to heaven) on the right hand section of the flag.

The flag has a white strip on the side with two metal eyelets.
