Love a NZDPM Swannie but know you'll give it hell? Why not purchase one that's already been given a beating. Alternatively these are a good buy if you're good with a little repair work. These are a mix of both 2 and 4 pocket versions.

Some of these have pretty hectic holes - see last image for an example. Some have had the repairs attempted already (at least one with some cheeky 80's NZDPM filling in the gaps) and some may be missing components like buttons. These will still keep you warm, even if they are a bit beat up. Bit of historical wear and tear doesn't hurt anyway.

Is it a bush shirt? Is it a great coat? Nah mate, it's kind of a mix! Affectionately also called a Swannie (after a famous wool brand Swanndri, though these are manufactured elsewhere in New Zealand), these wool coats are a bit legendary.

Back in the day (70-90's ish), some New Zealand soldiers found missing need in the uniform and privately purchased olive Swannies - to which the NZ Defence Force thought bugger that, let's have some made for proper uniform. Voila, NZDPM wool jackets arrived on the scene. These things are thick, heavy weight wool and bulky. Kind of why they didn't get adopted that well. In the end, NZDF rolled out the NZDPM windproof. Many farmers took up stock of these wooly coats when they could, as they are great for the cold outdoors and a classic Kiwi style garment.
