Hungary's current flag was adopted in 1957 but the tricolour in its variants comes as far back as late 1700's. The original design came from the national freedom movement before the revolution of 1848. It was inspired by the French tricolour that their revolution created except using Hungarian colours.

The flag has a white strip on the side with two metal eyelets.
