Featuring the popular Pan-African colours, Burkina Faso adopted their flag in 1984. Burkina Faso broke ties visually with their new flag from their German colonists and shows their solidarity with other African ex-colony's. The red is said to symbolize the revolution and the green symbolizes the abundance of natural riches. The yellow star is said to be the guiding light of the revolution.

The flag has a white strip on the side with two metal eyelets.
