Description
Malawi adopted their flag in 1964 when the British colony of Nyasaland became independent and renamed itself Malawi. The flag uses pan-African colours - red, green and black. The 31 sun-rays on the flag represent at the time of its conception that Malawi was the 31st African nation at the time of its independence (a lot of African nations were breaking away from colonialism at this time).
The flag has a white strip on the side with two metal eyelets.
